After careful deliberation, five writers have been selected to be featured during the course of STORY CONFERENCE. They are:

These scripts have been chosen because they are ready to be workshopped. They also represent various genres. The selection process did not involve choosing the best scripts. It involved finding screenplays that seemed far enough along in their development that a workshop would be beneficial to the writers themselves and all writers in attendance.

The process worked like this: I sifted through the premises of seven romantic comedies (for instance), narrowing down the selections to three with promising concepts. I then requested the three scripts and chose one.

STORY CONFERENCE is not solely intended to assist these five writers but has been designed to help ALL writers, since the challenges and weaknesses reflected in these screenplays are universal to most screenplays.

CONFERENCE #1 will feature a romantic comedy by Michael Ferrari and will be posted on this site on August 31, 2002. This will give all participants TWO WEEKS to read the script and prepare notes to share at the first CONFERENCE on SEPTEMBER 14th from 12-2.

Each session will also devote time to participants’ concerns in their own writing and basic business practices like query letters and log lines.

The final session (11/23) will be dedicated solely to the questions and concerns of participants.

REMEMBER: STORY CONFERENCE is open to all writers and is FREE OF CHARGE.
